A pioneer and cruaader for women's basketball at all levels, Doug Bruno enters his 22nd season as DePaul University's Head Coach. His passion for the game is evident at the end if every press converence with his words "Thank you for supporting Women's Basketball."
Bruno recently completed a two-year term as President of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Bruno was selected by his peers at the 2005 Final Four as just the second male coach in the WBCA's history to lead the organization. Prior to his role as President, he was the Male Coaches of Womens's Basketball Representative on the Board of Directors. The WBCA promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as an amature sport for women and girls.
Bruno also works with the sport at the highest levels with USA Basketball and the WNBA. During the summers of 2006 and 2007, he served as the Head Coach of the U.S. U18 and U19 National Teams, having led the USA squad to the Goad Medal at the 2006 FIBA Americas U18 Championship before guiding the U19 team to a perfect 9-0 record en route to gold at the FIBA U19 World Championship for Women in Bratislava, Slovakia.
"It is a privilege for me to be among the pioneers of women's basketball helping young players learn this great game. At DePaul we love winning big games. Just as rewarding as single game victory has been my opportunity to teach youth basketball. Beginning at the elementary school level, progressing into Junior High and High School levels, teaching young girls as they grow into IHSA all-staters and earn a college scholarship is the most rewarding aspect of my teaching and coaching. While not all players will be all-staters or earn scholarships, I take great pride in helping each camper take their game to the highest level."
